The public works department in the borough of LaSalle saved enough money on their paving contracts this year that they are able to pave Champlain Blvd. between Bishop Power and the borough of Verdun before the snow flies. The work is underway now and scheduled to be completed by November 1.

“This infrastructure money came from Montreal in their budget last spring,” said Pierre Dupuis, a spokesperson for the Borough. “We were scheduled to redo parts of Armel, Ducas, Thierry and Serre streets. The contracts were lower than expected, so that’s why Champlain could be done within the Montreal envelope.”

Other parts of Champlain Boulevard are closed to traffic as well. The city of Montreal is paving the portion they own near Dollard Street and Verdun is busy paving a portion they own near 6th Avenue.

To approve the work in their borough, the LaSalle council called a special meeting for September 27, a contract of $518,263.58 went to Sintra Inc. (Région Rive-Sud) to repave Champlain Blvd. between Bishop Power and Sénécal Avenue.

The company is registered under the name Germain Perron, NEQ 1145755295 and is owned primarily by ColasCanada Inc. All the companies have their head offices at 4984, Place de la Savane, Montreal. Directors include Germain Perron; Louis R. Gabanna from Edmonton, Alberta; Jean-Yves Llenas; Normand Bédard; Daniel Pelneault; and Robert Côté. It was created through the mergers of Compagnie Asphalte Ltée, 9067-6297 Québec Inc., 9094-3564 Québec Inc., Béton St-Ephrem Inc., Pagé Construction Ltée, Sintra Inc., A. Lamothe (1991) Inc., Pavage De Dorchester Inc. and Pavage Sigma Inc.

The council also approved up to $85,000 in additional expenses for last minute issues that aren’t covered by the Sintra contract.
