The Transition Movement began in Ireland and England in 2005 as people in towns and villages asked themselves how they could reduce dependence on fossil fuels and strive to be more sustainable and self-sufficient. Since then, it has spawned offshoots in 20 countries, with Montreal chapters in Villeray and Verdun and murmurs of another coming together in Point St. Charles.”
