Jean-François Lisée announced that Verdun can count on receiving two million dollars for its planned Aquatic Centre from the Quebec Government last Friday.
Jean-François Lisée included the figure in an infrastructure funding announcement for four projects:
- Verdun’s aquatic centre got $2 million;
- The Collège de Bois-de-Boulogne’s swimming pool got $1.4 million,
- lighting in the Southwest borough’s Ignace-Bourget Park got $1 million, and
- planned baskeball and tennis courts at école Des Sources got almost $600,000,
for a total of $5,024,076.06.
The announcement took place in the Monsignor-Richard Secondary School in the theatre built above the old interior pool that was filled in some years ago.
All polyvalentes need indoor swimming pools,” said Lisée. “I am convinced that the Montreal population, particularly our youth, will be happy to use high-quality modern installations. Years ago, the Quebec Government chose to invest in sports at the elite level and we saw that pay off in Sochi. But you don’t get elite athletes without quality sports facilities for everyone else too.”
Verdun Mayor Jean-François Parenteau also spoke about the Verdun’s aquatic centre, which will begin with an $18.6 million pavilion on the waterfront.
This is a project dear to Verdun residents because our borough doesn’t possess an interior swimming pool on our territory that responds to the needs of the population.”
Lisée’s announcement took place just two hours after Liberal MNA Henri-Francois Gautrin announced his retirement after the next election.
