Construction on the eight-storey low-income seniors’ apartment on boulevard des Châteaux began two weeks ago.
When the building is done in autumn 2014, it will contain 86 apartments for seniors 75 years-old and older or those aged 64 to 75, if they have mild disabilities. The building will also contain offices for the 15 or so employees of Laval’s housing authority (l’Office municipal d’habitation de Laval—OMHL) and a cafeteria.
“For us, this project is very important because this is the first building in which we have in-house services–a cafeteria, a security guard and our offices,” says André Dénommé, a spokesperson for the OMHL. “Our residences now have no services like that so we’ll increase our offerings to our clientele.”

The building is being constructed by Seven Brothers Construction Inc., which has offices on 7910 av. Marco-Polo in Montréal. Company officers include Alfonso, Argento, Calogero and Elio Argento. The main owner of the company is 174664 Canada Ltée, which includes the same officers as Seven Brothers, plus Gerlando, Michele and Settimio Argento.
OMHL won’t be able to begin taking reservations until spring 2014, when they had originally hoped to begin filling two buildings beginning this fall.
Opposition to a second proposed project on Tessier Blvd. halted plans for the five-storey building in Parc Chopin last March. Dénommé says that his organization hopes to find land for that project in the coming months.
