Debates for Montreal Mayor

Several debates have occurred among the many candidates for Montreal mayor during this campaign. Most are available online.

CBC/McGill

The English CBC/McGill Debate that took place on October 22 is available at: http://www.cbc.ca/montreal/features/municipal-elections-2013/debate/

Then there are two debates I already covered.

There were several things I noticed about the first two debates mentioned below:

• The candidates all speak English well, even Richard Bergeron, who claims not to;
• Transportation, infrastructure and governance are the biggest differences  between candidates so far;
• Mme. Joly’s presence is an advantage;  and
• Denis Coderre sounds the same in English as he does in French, but the other candidates sound like different people.

CTV/CJAD Debate in English

On August 16, CTV and CJAD’s English debate took place among what they considered the top three candidates: Marcel Côté, Denis Coderre and Richard Bergeron.

 Institute of Nouveau Monde Debate about Youth Issues

Want to see the first debate between four of the twelve mayoralty candidates in Montreal? A French debate between Marcel Côté, Denis Coderre, Richard Bergeron and Mélanie Joly took place on August 16 at the Institute of Nouveau Monde summer school.

Michel Benoit and Michel Brulé were in the room, as was Louise Harel.

The election takes place on Sunday, November 3. Most residents will have at least two votes (like those who live in Ville Marie). Some (like Verdun and LaSalle residents) will have as many as five. Everyone gets to vote for mayor of the city and a local city representative. People who live in boroughs also get to vote for one or two borough representatives and a borough mayor.
