Despite many fewer school board commissioners at the French Marguerite Bourgeoys, there will be several new faces around the table.

Diane Lamarche-Venne easily won the right to remain chair with 60% of the votes placed. She got 5,742 votes compared to 3,881for Max Martel.

Martel did do well in Verdun and LaSalle, however, primarily because of his performance at the debate on Nun’s Island.

His local slate of candidates—Stefana Lamasanu in the East LaSalle South Verdun Ward and Caroline Varin in the Verdun North, Nun’s Island Ward—were publicly supported by Verdun Mayor Jean-François Parenteau.

Lamasanu won her seat with 52% of the vote, with 534 votes over Jean-Marc Crête’s 309 and Patrick Larochelle’s 188.

Varin got 48% of the vote, narrowly beating Veronique Tremblay with 590 votes over 408. Pierre Labrosse got 242 votes.

Sarita Benchimol in the Hampstead, Côte-Saint-Luc, Montreal West, eastern Lachine and northern LaSalle ward, also won her seat narrowly. She had 217 votes, while Jean-Pierre Boivin got 180 votes.

The race in Dollard-Des Ormeaux, northern Pointe-Claire and southern Pierrefonds-Roxboro was also close. Denis Brousseau beat Yves Roy with 191 votes versus 168. Independent candidate Abdesselam Mejlaoui got the 58 votes that could have made voters’ choice clearer.

Abi Koné had no competition and was acclaimed. He represents people living in western Saint Laurent.

The rest of the commissioners who won their seats were running on Lamarche-Venne’s slate.

  • Joanne Bonnici now represents people living in the central south LaSalle ward.
  • Marie-Josée Boivin represents western and central Lachine.
  • Claude Cuillerier represents Dorval, Île-Dorval and southern Pointe-Claire.
  • Sonia Gagné-Lalonde represents people living in Senneville, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Baie D’Urfé, Beaconsfield and Kirkland.
  • Suzanne Marceau represents people living in western Pierrefonds-Roxboro, Île-Bizard and western Sainte-Geneviève.
  • Louise Leroux represents eastern Pierrefonds-Roxboro and eastern Sainte-Geneviève.
  • Christian Desjardins represents those living in eastern Saint Laurent.
  • Luc Landreville represents those living in Outremont and Ville Mont-Royal.
