MONTREAL, Quebec, October 28, 2013 –
Parks Canada would like to inform the public that work will be carried out on the Lafleur Bridge, which links Dollard Avenue in LaSalle with Saint-Pierre Avenue in Lachine, to ensure user safety and extend the bridge’s operating life.

The work will take place over a 14-week period, and will affect several aspects of the Lafleur Bridge, including demolition and reconstruction of certain elements of the bridge deck, replacement of the road surface, partial demolition and reconstruction of the backwall, replacement of the curbs, and demolition of the loose concrete on the counterweight surfaces.

The work will continue until March 2014. To facilitate the work, the 50-year-old bridge will be completely closed to traffic as of November 12. Vehicles will therefore be allowed to travel in the opposite direction on the Gauron Bridge, with one lane heading north and the other south.

“Since the Lachine Canal re-opened to recreational boating in 2002, Parks Canada has continued to help with the revitalization of the southwest sector of Montréal, said Luc-André Mercier, Director, Quebec Waterways. Throughout the work that will take place from fall 2013 into winter 2014, Parks Canada wishes to minimize the impact on bridge users. We will therefore encourage them to take the detour routes since there will be a reduced number of traffic lanes open. That being said, the repair work will not affect traffic on the Lachine Canal’s path.”

Throughout the work, Parks Canada will work closely with its partners to ensure user safety, in addition to providing accurate information so that users can efficiently plan their travel.

This repair work is part of Parks Canada’s ongoing efforts to improve its infrastructure. In 2006, significant work was carried out on the structural elements of the Lafleur Bridge and its neighbour, the Gauron Bridge.

MONTREAL, Quebec, August 19, 2013 –
Parks Canada would like to notify the community of the temporary closure of a path on the north shore of the Lachine Canal and detour to the south shore of the Canal, as of October 9, 2012, until the end of the works.

Construction work is required to facilitate development on the Parks Canada section of the path located across the Les Bassins du Nouveau Havre CLC project. The work will be carried out on the section of the Lachine Canal path located between Richmond Street to the west and Du Séminaire Street to the east.

To ensure the safety of path users during construction work, the path between Des Seigneurs Street and the Wellington Bridge will be temporarily closed and a detour will be provided. Signage will direct path users to the south side of the canal, thereby avoiding the construction area.
