Jean-Francois Labbe

Candidate office: 8208 Jean Brillon

With a background in business, law and economics, Jean-François Labbé has lots of ideas about how to develop LaSalle’s potential. He says that the borough’s size and location along the St. Lawrence make it an ideal place for families, business and leisure.

On day one of his mandate he plans to set up four task forces to work on environmental projects, tax reduction, economic development and attracting families, and security.

Cleaning up the environment is a key concern to make the borough safe and popular for families. Plans include toxic waste clean-up, door-to-door composting and perhaps the creation of a beach on the St. Lawrence.

He will rebalance future development to include spaces for families with young children, while also eliminating the borough’s tax surplus.

There’s lots of industrial land for small business development too. Labbé wonders why more economic entrepreneurship isn’t already underway in the borough, given its strengths. He sees possibilities for microbreweries, restaurants and small manufacturers.

He’s also concerned about security. He says that families need secure spaces and that more lighting in parks, along cycling paths and in strategic portions of the boroughs is needed.

As a lifelong resident of LaSalle and someone who served in Paul Martin’s cabinet, Labbé says he’ll approach colleagues in companies and on the boards of the Société d’Investissement Jeunesse (SIJ), the Foundation of the University of Quebec at Montreal and CASM (Sector Committee of Manpower) for help in ensuring that LaSalle grows and prospers.
