Liberal MNA Henri-François Gautrin announced his retirement last Friday, February 28 after representing the Verdun for 25 years.
I really appreciate the support of the Verdunites over these 25 years,” he said in a later interview. “I’ve been very very happy to be the MLA during this period of time.”
Gautrin made it clear that he plans to work just as hard in the coming election for the next candidate as he worked for himself.
I will work for the next candidate to be elected,” he said. “It’s very important for me that this riding remains Liberal. Last time, we won by only 545 votes so it won’t be easy, but I’m dedicated myself to that. I don’t want the PQ to win this riding. Part of our vote went to CAQ. My objective is to get that vote back for us.”
Gautrin said he knew who the candidate would be, but he wouldn’t divulge a name.
It’s very important election, because if the PQ gets a majority, we might have a new referendum. I’ve fought for my country twice and I don’t want to fight a third time. I’m too old for that.”
