The City of Montreal sent out a second press release this morning to inform residents that emergency repairs to a water conduit below La Verendrye at Beaulieu Street should be completed by the end of the day Monday.

This means that traffic headaches are likely to continue through the weekend.

Also, until the repairs are completed and the system is flushed, some 49,000 residents may see rust deposits or other discolouration in their water. Despite this, the city assures residents that the water remains safe for drinking and brushing your teeth. The discolouration could stain clothes or dishes, however, so the city recommends that residents run the tap until the water runs clear prior to using it for cleaning.(Note this came from an initial press release.)

  • T‎raffic was reduced to one lane this morning. Water still gushing up through cracks in the pavement on my way to work.

Yesterday at rush hour I had to drive through a 6″ deep stream of water in the right hand lane as workers examined the gushing water and tried (obviously unsuccessfully) to shut off the main valve.

Good thing I was driving a Ford at the time!
