BonjourEffect

Julie Barlow and Jean-Benoit Nadeau are visiting the University Club from 5 until 7 tonight to present their latest book, “The Bonjour Effect.”

I’m biased, because Julie and Jean are friends of mine, but the presentation is bound to be an absolute hoot. Nadeau’s quirky humour and Barlow’s calm demeanour have a way of making any subject come alive. Their love for France and their desire to explain French behaviour to everyone else will very certainly be infectious too. The University Club chef is even getting into the spirit with an assortment of French wines and canapés.

I haven’t read Bonjour Effect yet, and am planning to get my copy at the event tonight. It already has received some great attention though, since Molly Young gave it a very positive mention in the New York Times Magazine. Young said:

The authors clearly had a ball researching the book, and their glee is infectious. The writing is as light as it is substantive, and if that sounds like a contradiction, I would refer you to a soufflé.

I urge you to join us. Although the University Club is private and normally reserved to members, as a joint event with the Montreal Press Club, this presentation is open to the public. It costs $25 to attend. Reserve your spot with your credit card by calling 514-288-0201 or emailing reception@ucmontreal.ca. Please wear business casual.
